In Bowtie Children's Growth Term Critical Illness Insurance, we have adopted the latest critical illness definitions, which better align with current clinical diagnoses and research findings.
Taking "cancer" as an example, in the latest definition:
Tumors specified as "benign," "borderline," and "low malignant potential" in cancer pathology reports have been excluded. These types of tumors have a low possibility of spreading or recurring, are not considered carcinomas, and are less likely to cause serious impact on patients.
Although the coverage scope hasn't changed, the definition of "Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)" has been rewritten to better align with other insurance companies' wording.
These changes do not mean we have raised the threshold for claims. Every insurance company has the responsibility to update critical illness definitions based on the latest clinical diagnoses and research findings to ensure that insured persons receive appropriate payout.
Generally, the policyholder manages the policy, including paying premiums, making claims, and submitting insured person's information.
If the expectant mother is both the policyholder and the insured person, and falls into a coma or passes away during pregnancy/childbirth, the policy might temporarily lose its manager and miss important document submissions. For example, the child's birth certificate needs to be submitted 14 days before the first policy renewal date, otherwise the policy may become invalid.
If the policyholder is unable to handle policy matters due to health issues:
If the policyholder passes away, the ownership of the plan will be transferred to their estate administrator or executor, who will continue to manage the child's policy. Of course, after the policy takes effect, the policyholder should also keep good records of policy information, such as the policy number, to help relatives assist in managing the policy.
If you buy before child is born, you would have to pay during pregnancy period, the premium is not affected by the the expectant mother's age, gestation week, and gender of the fetus, etc. There is a uniform monthly charge, and the premium remains unchanged until the first year's renewal. After renewal, the premium is based on the child's age (completed age at last birthday), starting with the premium for age 0.
If you buy after child is born, the premium is based on the child's age (completed age at last birthday), starting with the premium for age 0.
After successfully transferring to Bowtie Term Critical Illness Insurance, the sum insured will remain at $500,000, and the premium will be charged according to the Bowtie Critical Illness Insurance premium table.
If there are any premium loadings or exclusions on the Bowtie Children's Growth Term Critical Illness Insurance, these will be carried over to the transferred Bowtie Term Critical Illness Insurance policy.
If you wish to purchase additional coverage or other critical illness insurance with higher protection, you will need to go through underwriting.
Bowtie Children's Growth Term Critical Illness Insurance will automatically renew until the next renewal date after the insured person (child) reaches 18 years of age.
After that, the policyholder has the right to transfer the policy to Bowtie Term Critical Illness Insurance. For more details, please refer to this article.
You only need to prepare your identity document and credit card or debit card to begin the application process.
Bowtie Children's Growth Term Critical Illness Insurance does not have a survival period. This means that the insured person will receive the payout upon diagnosis of a covered critical illness or completion of a covered surgery, as long as they meet the claim requirements, without any requirement to survive.

Why having such a complicated design?
When designing our products, we need to balance protection and risk.
Adding different waiting periods is to prevent some insured persons from immediately purchasing insurance after discovering disease risks during prenatal check-ups, showing symptoms after birth, or being diagnosed with illnesses, and then immediately filing claims, which would create an unfair situation for other insured persons.
Bowtie Children's Growth Term Critical Illness Insurance comes with a 21-day cooling-off period, regardless of whether it is purchased during pregnancy or directly after the child is born. If you cancel your policy within the cooling period, and have not received any claims payments or have any claims in progress, we will refund all premiums paid in full.

Yes, but the max. total critical illness coverage across all Bowtie CI plans is capped at HK$4 Million. This means:
If you reduce the sum insured of your existing critical illness policy in order to buy Bowtie Children's Growth Term CI, it might be counterproductive as the insured person may fail underwriting due to their health condition, which could result in losing the original protection while also being unable to obtain the new coverage.
Note: The pregnancy complication of $100k in Bowtie Children's Growth Term CI will not be counted in the max. total critical illness coverage.
Bowtie Children’s Growth Critical Illness Insurance offers targeted protection for children’s health risks, including genetic diseases, congenital conditions, pediatric illnesses and treatments, and other neonatal conditions*.
