In recent years, expectations for excellent performance are no longer limited to multinational companies but have expanded to include small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

In late 2023, Bowtie, ESG Matters, and Dialogue In The Dark (HK) Foundation jointly conducted a survey in Hong Kong to assess how SMEs from different industries are performing in the social aspect of ESG. Through this collaboration, we aspire to empower businesses to prioritise employee well-being and invest in comprehensive training programmes to build sustainable workplaces that foster growth, resilience, and social impact.

Key takeaways from
the report

Overall, companies in Hong Kong are doing well in social performance, demonstrating a strong commitment to employee well-being and creating a safe and supportive work environment.
86% of respondents agreed there is a zero-tolerance policy in place to address workplace bullying and harassment.
81% of respondents shared that flexible working hours are available. Companies are prioritising physical well-being, mental well-being, and physical activity as part of their commitment to employee health and well-being. 
On the other hand, only 46% agreed their company gives priority to disability inclusion at work. This is a prompt for companies to advance their efforts in disability inclusion and employee engagement.
