In October 2018, Kowloon Hospital added a new Psychiatric Emergency Ward with 40 beds, increasing the total number of beds to 220. The design of the new ward focuses on natural lighting and soft colors, allowing ample sunlight to enter the ward. Patients can experience changes in weather, and the wider spacing between beds helps improve their condition.
In addition to the improved design and lighting, the new emergency ward includes dedicated areas for the elderly or individuals with special needs, providing appropriate treatment based on different backgrounds and requirements. Furthermore, there is a “Quiet Corner” in the public area for resting, listening to music, and drawing, creating a more comfortable and free environment for patients and helping to control their emotions.
The staffing level has also been increased in response to the new ward. The nurse-to-patient ratio has improved from approximately 1 nurse to 2 patients to 1 nurse to 1.7 patients, which should help in providing better patient care.
Patients should bring their personal daily necessities, such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, towels, tissues, wet wipes, soap, and slippers.
In addition, patients need to bring their Hong Kong identity card or passport and admission documents for registration. Non-local residents or government employees receiving public assistance can click here for more information.
Yes, you can. If you are already receiving Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA), you only need to inform the staff during each registration for medical consultation that you are eligible for exemption from medical fees. Provide the necessary identification documents, and upon confirmation by the staff, you will be exempted from public healthcare service charges.
If you are not receiving CSSA, you can still apply for fee reduction in public hospitals and clinics, Samaritan Fund, and Community Care Fund Medical Assistance Programs after meeting specific eligibility criteria and passing the means test.
