Hong Kong, 16 December 2020 – Bowtie is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Daisuke Iwase as a Senior Advisor to the company. Alongside Mr John Tsang, Mr. Iwase will advise Bowtie and accelerate its ambition of becoming Asia’s leading challenger virtual insurer.
Mr. Iwase is a well-respected pioneer and leader of digital innovation in the insurance sector. Years before digital insurers became a trend, Mr. Iwase co-founded Japan’s first digital life insurance company, Lifenet Insurance Company (Lifenet). He served as Representative Director and President of Lifenet, successfully taking the company public on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2012. Today, Lifenet provides US$27 billion worth of protection to over 400,000 customers.
He is currently Managing Partner at Tiger Gate Capital, a strategy advisory firm based in Hong Kong serving fintech and healthtech venture companies. As a successful entrepreneur, Mr. Iwase has first-hand experience with the opportunities and challenges that a new insurance company faces. He believes this experience can help the next generation of companies scale across new markets to make a larger impact.
As the most recent Group Chief Digital Officer of AIA Group, Mr. Iwase returns to the dynamic insurtech sector by joining Bowtie. Mr. Iwase commented, “Bowtie has tremendous potential to change the game and bridge the health protection gap for millions of people across Asia. I’m excited to join a fast-growing team like Bowtie. The pace of technology change has continued to accelerate and customers are now readier than ever for digital channels. Bowtie is well-positioned to take on the challenges and seize this opportunity.”
Mr. Michael Chan, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Bowtie, said, “Every new digital insurer, including Bowtie, has studied Lifenet closely. Mr. Iwase is a true trailblazer and has been generous in sharing his advice with young entrepreneurs. I am confident Mr. Iwase will help guide our young team through Bowtie’s growth and expansion ahead.”
Mr. Fred Ngan, Co-founder and Co-CEO of Bowtie, added, “We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Iwase. He shares the same vision and values as us. We believe the existing customer experience seems rather outdated and no longer relevant to the next generation. Our technology can change how people access healthcare, making insurance simpler and more affordable.”
